For the past few weeks Ian, our friend, has been in the throes of an “existential crisis,” questioning his identity and life’s meaning.
As two gentlemen who go through their own crisises quite often, Jared and I empathized – we knew not even one hundred hugs nor a thousand long talks beers would help Ian feel better. More than ever, Ian needed our help.
So, this past saturday we asked 100 of our San Franciscan neighbors to take the “Ian Survey” in attempt to find real answers. Surely Ian would be able to find himself with the generous help of kind (and not so kind) strangers willing to share their opinion on a sunny saturday at Dolores Park?
Jared wrote the questions, Kristin made it pretty (IanSurvey.pdf) and after a short trip to Kinkos and we were ready to hit the park armed with our thrift store clipboards, charming wit, and most sincere intentions to find the “real” Ian.

After a few hours, we tabulated the data with Laura’s help and and began to analyze the day’s outcome. The results were indeed, like Ian himself, stunning.
Coincidentally (ha!), Ian hosted a party saturday night, and seeing as he had no idea of our shenanigans, Jared and I believed a Presentation of Findings to be in order.
Here are the slides, though they leave a lot to be desired…the keynote transitions really sold it, so let me know if you want a copy of the .KEY file.
Thanks to every one who helped, filled out a survey, or otherwise supported our cause! And of course, thank you Ian for being such a good sport!
